Senior Minister
Job Description

 

Basic Responsibility: To glorify God by providing Biblical leadership through focusing on God’s Word and prayer, shepherding the body of Christ, equipping the saints to do the work of ministry, and providing direction and guidance to the staff and overall ministries in carrying out the mission statement of Owensboro Christian Church.

Qualifications:

  • Education Level- minimum of four years from an accredited Bible College or Seminary
  • Married preferably with children
  • Preferably a minimum of five years of successful experience as a senior minister
  • Possesses high morals and integrity
  • Has a clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ and nurtures his inner self through a disciplined life of daily fellowship with God in prayer and Bible study
  • Demonstrates competence in organization, administration and interpersonal relationships
  • Demonstrates a passion for people and reaching the lost for Christ
  • Demonstrates competence in Bible teaching and preaching and shows a commitment to excellence in ministry and programming
  • Excels in effective oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrates the ability to relate to and meet the needs of a broad based congregation
  • Demonstrates the ability to develop leadership of a ministry team
  • Demonstrates the ability to facilitate the growth of church membership
  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate a shared vision and implement strategic planning to accomplish goals and objectives
  • Demonstrates an interest in the importance of missions and church plants

 

Responsibilities:

  • As Primary preaching minister prepare and deliver sermons that are relevant and seeker sensitive, while challenging members and visitors to become fully devoted followers of Christ
  • Will develop the preaching schedule and delegate to other ministers when they will preach
  • Will oversee the ministerial staff and directors
  • Takes the initiative in recommending and implementing actions that fulfill the vision and mission of Owensboro Christian Church
  • Plan overall direction of the church with the staff and elders focusing on spiritual and ministerial objectives that are part of a strategic three, five and ten year plan
  • Provides for overall training, inspiration and motivation of the ministry staff to ensure they are maturing in their faith, growing in their relationships with each other and upgrading their skills
  • Schedules and leads weekly staff meetings for planning and motivation
  • Meets with the ministry staff to personally review their ministry and program recommendations and results
  • Takes a proactive approach toward identifying problems/challenges and offers creative, prayerful solutions for resolution
  • Guides the church members to responsible Biblical giving through Stewardship development
  • Is available for Christian counseling
  • Is available to conduct weddings and funeral services
  • Supports missions and church plants
  • Other duties as deemed suitable by the elders
