OWENSBORO CHRISTIAN CHURCH SENIOR PASTOR PROFILE

This profile is simply one measuring tool, used by the Senior Pastor Search Committee, to help in selecting the Senior Minister that God desires to lead Owensboro Christian Church. This measuring tool will prayerfully aid in assessing an individual’s strengths and weaknesses in the areas listed below.

“Set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity. … devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching.” (1 Timothy 4:12, 13)

Preaching – The Senior Pastor’s primary gift and passion will be preaching. The Pastor’s sermons will be biblically based, using exposition, life situations, culture, and world developments. These sermons will evangelize, inspire, challenge, and be relevant to the church and its diverse membership. The Pastor will convey spiritual, biblical, and Christ-centered truths with clarity and understanding.

Leadership - The Senior Pastor’s leadership will be modeled after Jesus Christ, the ultimate example of a true and humble servant leader, and carried out under the guidance of scripture and the Holy Spirit. The Pastor will be a person of influence and Christian character who has the ability to blend the traditions of our past with a courageous vision for our future. The Pastor will lead the staff and promote a team atmosphere. He will motivate the congregation to implement and to support church ministries. The Pastor will lead and motivate the congregation to carry out the cause of Christ and the mission of Owensboro Christian Church.

Commitment – The Senior Pastor’s first commitment is to Jesus Christ, manifested by an active prayer life, devotion to his family, devotion to the church, and compassion toward those in need. The Pastor will prayerfully lead others to the same commitment. The Pastor will embrace Owensboro Christian Church’s mission statement, as well as our heritage as a Christian church. The Pastor will actively support all of the ministers and their ministries, local and global missions that characterize our church.

Relationships - The Pastor will foster a mentoring relationship with the staff. The Pastor will value the diversity of our congregation, the Owensboro area and the community, leading us to live harmoniously with each other and our neighbors. The Pastor will have a heart for Christ’s church that is expressed in a compassion for all generations, families, personal relationships, and communities. The Pastor’s devotion to his wife and family should be self evident.

Personal Giftedness – The Senior Pastor will possess a sincere desire to continue to learn and grow. The Pastor’s own ability to overcome struggles, celebrate successes, and identify spiritual gifts will result in effective teaching and a passion for discipleship. The Pastor will encourage each individual to identify and utilize his/her spiritual gifts and talents in service.

Experience and Education – The Senior Pastor will have earned at least a 4 year degree and/or a master’s degree from an accredited seminary or divinity school. The Pastor will have a demonstrated ability to manage a large staff that implements various ministries for all age groups. The Pastor will have experience or comfort with OCC’s media approaches to ministry.

In summary, the Senior Pastor will be called by God and will prayerfully lead Owensboro Christian Church to a deeper personal relationship with Jesus Christ, an active prayer life, faithfulness to scripture, and inspirational preaching. The Pastor will exemplify a life of integrity, a servant-leader relationship with the staff and congregation, and a courageous vision for reaching the lost and those in need. The Pastor will be the primary vehicle in making the Christian faith relevant to those within Owensboro Christian Church’s sphere of influence.
